A legacy of resilience, courage, and family bonds spanning over 150 years
In the spring of 1892, Anders and Johanna Thorup made the brave decision to leave their Danish homeland. With three young children and little more than hope, they boarded a steamship in Copenhagen bound for New York. The 14-day voyage across the Atlantic was arduous, but the promise of opportunity in America kept their spirits high.
The family settled in Minnesota, where Anders worked as a carpenter. Despite the harsh winters and language barriers, the Thorup family persevered. They built a small farmhouse outside Minneapolis, which stood for over 100 years and became a gathering place for family reunions.
In 1950, Carl Thorup began documenting our family history, interviewing elderly relatives and collecting photographs. This tradition continues today, with family members contributing stories, documents, and memories to preserve our rich heritage for future generations
